An alarming amount of news has come into discussion regarding wind turbines birds and how many birds are injured each year because of the use of windmills. However, the facts when it comes to wind turbines birds injuries are sometimes highly exaggerated and sometimes statistics do not tell the entire story.

Wind Turbines Birds Death – Not as high as many other sources of bird casualties

As you can see from the above graph, there are many other causes of bird injuries compared with with turbines. Power lines create up to 170 million deaths a year, while if there was wind turbines, the amount of those deaths would be drastically decreased! For this fact alone, many wind turbines birds deaths while this would account for a certain amount of deaths, it would be much less than power lines and other causes of this problem. Some individuals may be concerned with the type of wind turbines birds deaths that are caused by the turbines. Since many turbines use sharp blades to harvest their energy, the birds that are flying through can be horribly killed when they fly through. However, when cats hunt birds and kill them, often times they will use their razor sharp claws to shred their bodies. Also, many birds are electrocuted by power lines as this also seems like a terrible way to die.

After reading the above information, the question is why are so many people outraged about wind turbines injuring birds? The answer is that the people concerned possibly are unaware of the other types of bird deaths that are caused by objects. Since cats kill the majority of birds, should we ban them from our town? As you can see, this would be ridiculous.  Wind turbines birds casualties are necessary to saving the planet by providing a renewable source of energy and the mass production of them may even save birds as the alternative is them being killed via power lines.
